If you are missing most or all of your teeth, or are tired of dentures that slip and rub, implant dentures can offer a secure, comfortable way to restore your smile. At Rancho Del Rey Oral & Facial Surgery Center, board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons Dr. Jason B. Gile and Dr. Richard Mowry help patients throughout Chula Vista and San Diego eat, speak, and smile with confidence again.

As the first practice in San Diego to offer the Yomi® robotic-guided dental implant system, our practice has been named a Yomi® Gold Center of Excellence, and our surgical team has earned Platinum Doctor of Excellence status, two of the highest distinctions awarded by Neocis. For implant denture patients, this means exceptional precision and, in many cases, a less invasive procedure with a smoother recovery.

Implant Dentures & Traditional Dentures

Traditional dentures rest on the gums and rely on suction or adhesives, so they can shift, cause sore spots, and lose their fit as the jawbone shrinks. Implant dentures are anchored in place, offering greater stability, stronger biting power, and bone preservation. Many upper implant dentures can also be designed with less palate coverage, allowing you to taste food more fully.

What Are the Benefits of Implant Dentures?

For many patients, implant dentures offer a significant improvement in comfort, function, and confidence compared to conventional tooth replacement options. Benefits typically include:

  • A secure fit that does not slip or click
  • The ability to enjoy a wider variety of foods
  • Clearer, more natural speech
  • No need for denture adhesives
  • Preservation of jawbone and facial structure
  • Long-term results with proper care

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures may be right for you if you are missing most or all of your teeth, have failing teeth, or wear traditional dentures and want a more stable option. Ideal candidates are in good overall health and have sufficient bone, or are candidates for bone grafting. Even with bone loss from years of denture wear, the accuracy of Yomi® can help our surgeons place implants in challenging areas. Your surgeon will evaluate your needs using advanced 3D imaging.

How Many Implants Are Needed for Implant Dentures?

The number of implants needed depends on which jaw is being treated, the design of your denture, and the quality of your jawbone. Most implant dentures use between two and six implants per arch, with the upper jaw often requiring more due to softer bone. Our surgeons will determine the ideal number and position for your anatomy and goals.

What Happens During the Implant Dentures Procedure?

Treatment begins with 3D imaging and scans used to build a precise digital plan in YomiPlan™ software. On the day of surgery, you will be kept comfortable with local anesthesia or sedation, and any remaining teeth can often be removed during the same visit. The Yomi® robotic system then provides real-time guidance as your surgeon places each implant at the exact planned location, angle, and depth, often through smaller incisions.

Most patients do not go without teeth during treatment. Thanks to the accuracy of guided and robotic-assisted surgery, many qualified patients receive temporary teeth the same day their implants are placed. Otherwise, an existing denture can often be adjusted to wear during healing. Once your implants have fully integrated with the bone, your final denture is attached.

What Can I Expect During My Implant Denture Recovery?

Mild swelling and tenderness are common for a few days and are usually managed with medication and cold compresses. Because Yomi® often allows for a less invasive procedure, many patients find recovery more comfortable than expected. A soft food diet is recommended during early healing, and full integration typically takes a few months.

How Long Do Implant-Supported Dentures Last?

With proper care, the implants can last for decades. The denture may eventually need adjustment or replacement due to normal wear. Daily cleaning, regular dental visits, and avoiding tobacco all help extend the life of your restoration.

Are Implant-Supported Dentures Safe?

Implant dentures are a well-established treatment, and titanium implants are biocompatible. Your safety is further supported by our surgeons’ board certification, Dr. Gile’s dual degrees in dentistry and medicine, and Yomi®, the first and only FDA-cleared robotic system for dental implant surgery. Our practice has been named a Yomi® Gold Center of Excellence, and our surgical team has earned Platinum Doctor of Excellence status, honors that recognize our extensive experience performing robotic-guided implant procedures with precision and consistency.

How Much Do Implant Dentures Cost?

Cost depends on the number of implants, the type of denture, and whether procedures like extractions or bone grafting are needed. We will provide a personalized estimate during your consultation and review insurance and financing options with you.
