What Are the Available Types of Sedation & Anesthesia?

There are different depths of sedation available, including conscious, moderate, and deep sedation, as well as general anesthesia. The right choice depends on your health, level of anxiety, and type of procedure.

IV Sedation

Delivered through a vein, IV sedation creates a deep sense of relaxation and helps reduce awareness of the procedure.

General Anesthesia

This option puts you asleep and is ideal for longer or more complex surgeries. It is carefully administered and closely monitored by our board-certified oral surgeons. When appropriate, an in-house anesthesiologist is also available to assist with care.

Are Oral Surgery Sedation & Anesthesia Safe?

Sedation and anesthesia are considered safe for oral surgery when provided by trained professionals in a properly equipped setting. Our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons have advanced training in anesthesia and patient monitoring, and follow strict protocols to minimize risk. In addition, multiple members of our team hold Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications, as well as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Anesthesia (OMSA) training, ensuring the highest level of preparedness for patient safety.

Before your procedure, we provide clear instructions — such as fasting, adjusting medications, and arranging a ride home. Our team is here to help you feel informed, prepared, and supported throughout the process.
